All that straining to go to the bathroom can easily cause hemorrhoids -- swollen veins where the sun don’t shine that can be painful or itchy. Treat any discomfort by stocking up at the pharmacy. “Preparation H and Tucks pads can be used when you’re pregnant,” Dr. Kolp says. “Soaking in a tub of warm water and Epsom salt can decrease the swelling and inflammation, too.” To prevent getting hemorrhoids in the first place, "try to keep your stools soft and avoid bearing down during bowel movements," says Ashley Roman, M.D, Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Langone Medical Center.
