11 Ways to Create a Cool Kid's Space

Decorating your kid’s room can be exciting and fun, but it’s also a little bit overwhelming. There's the task of choosing furniture that will grow with your child, plus the daunting issue of storing Matchbox Cars and Zhu Zhu Pets that seem to multiply on their own. Enter design guru and mom of seven Cortney Novogratz who teams with her husband Robert to create unique, functional spaces with a funky, downtown-chic aesthetic. The two are also the stars of HGTV’s series Home by Novogratz. Read on for great ideas for decorating, furnishing, and organizing your nursery or kid’s room.

Keep It Simple, but Choose One Amazing Piece
Kids are hard on their surroundings so keep most of their furniture simple, practical and inexpensive -- then build in on one dramatic focal point. “Choose one cool, great piece, whether it be a beautiful bed, a piece of art, a mirror, or a crazy chair for the room,” says Cortney. In daughter Bellamy's room, she included a simple white desk, but then wowed with an Indonesian canopy bed from Bali, decked out in contrasting small-print bedding and graphic large-print floral pillows.
