The High/Low: Velvet Flats

They're as cozy as bedroom slippers, but totally office appropriate

I have to give Hugh Hefner some credit. The man has conducted business in a smoking jacket and slippers for years, without anyone blinking an eye. Silk PJs aside, you can mimic that comfy, cool vibe (minus the Playmates) with a pair of bejeweled velvet flats. They add a little luxe to your shoe collection, and are a perfect alternative to high heels for holiday gatherings and special occasions. Here are two options (a splurge and steal) you’ll want to slip on ASAP:

High: Up your razzle-dazzle quotient with Miu Miu's Smoke Velvet Jeweled Ruched Flats. The shoe features matching gems and pretty bow detailing -- subtle touches for understated elegance ($460 at Bluefly).

Low: Miu Miu’s inexpensive twin, the "Gwenie" Flat by Chinese Laundry, is made of crushed velvet and includes beading at the toe ($49 at Dillard's).
