When Hillary Clinton retired as Secretary of State, she said she planned to lay low for awhile. So that would be an odd time to start a Twitter account, right? Nevertheless, Clinton unveiled her new Twitter page on Monday -- and we'd advise you to hit "follow" immediately. Let us explain.
First of all, Hillary has the best bio ever. "Wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate," she begins. Then she names her political qualifications: "FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState." And finally, she gets cheeky: "author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD..."
That's right: "TBD." If that doesn't hint at "running for office," we're not sure what does.
Even more impressive, though, is Hil's first tweet. Rather than sending out a cautious, generic greeting, Clinton tweeted to the creators of that amazing meme, Texts from Hillary. (The meme is the source for her profile photo.)
She even used a hashtag. Correctly! We are in awe. For good measure, Hillary was welcomed to the microblogging site by her husband, Twitter veteran Bill Clinton, and the original Clinton family tweeter, daughter Chelsea.
Obviously, we're hoping that Hillary is a frequent tweeter, because we want to hear her thoughts on Game of Thrones and see Instagrams of her bad hair days. More likely, though, her Twitter account is a strategic move to boost her approval rating as she contemplates a 2016 Presidential run. Any candidate who wants to appeal to younger voters needs to seem relatable, accessible and social-media-savvy -- as Hillary learned the hard way in 2008.
She's smart to get that ball rolling now, and to do it with a sense of humor. The Presidential race is years away, but as of this moment, Hillary is totally #winning.
