As the news of Brittany Murphy's tragic death swept through Hollywood, many of her friends and former costars shared their thoughts about the type of person the 32-year-old actress was.
"I'm so saddened to hear this news. I loved working with Brittany. She was so talented, so warm and so sweet," said Alicia Silverstone, who played Murphy's best friend in 1995's Clueless, in a statement. "I always felt connected to her as we shared a very special experience in our lives together. I feel love in my heart for her and hope she is at peace."
"Brittany was one of the sweetest people you will ever meet," Clueless costar Donald Faison said. "She had the voice of an angel and a genuine heart of gold. I'm very happy to have known and worked with such a special person. My heart goes out to all of her loved ones."
"It is a terrible loss for us as actors and to the industry but even greater for her family," Murphy's Girl, Interrupted costar Whoopi Goldberg, told E! News. "My thoughts and prayers are with them."
"Brittany Murphy was in Drop Dead Gorgeous with me and was the sweetest and most adorable," Denise Richards wrote on her Twitter page. "Tragic, sad & devastating. Her poor family."
"My deepest condolences go out to all of Brittany Murphy's loved ones & may she rest in peace," Lindsay Lohan twittered. "She was a great talent w/a beautiful soul. XO."
"Brittany Murphy was an incredible ray of Light to so many people," Jessica Simpson wrote. "My prayers are with her family and loved ones."
"So so sad about Brittany Murphy. I did David & Lisa with her. Amazing talent. Incredible singer! SHE should have played Janis Joplin. I'll miss," wrote Debi Mazar.
Murphy reportedly suffered cardiac arrest, but the cause remains unclear. "We are involved in an investigation of Brittany Murphy's death," Ed Winter, chief investigator for the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, told E! News. "She evidently collapsed in the bathroom. She was transported to Cedars-Sinai hospital, where she passed away. We will probably be doing an autopsy tomorrow or Tuesday, of course the final results will be pending toxicology and further tests."
