This week's semifinals of Dancing with the Stars made one thing incredibly clear: Rob Kardashian knows how to shake his booty. So it wasn't a surprise when host Tom Bergeron announced that Kardashian and partner Cheryl Burke were the first couple to make the it to the season 13 finals.
But that left only two remaining spots for the Nov. 21 finale, and three hopeful pairs anxiously awaited their fates as the show's painfully slow pace kept the suspense drawn out as usual. Then Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who finished at the bottom of the competition Monday, were told they were in jeopardy.
The next couple deemed safe was Monday night's frontrunners, Ricki Lake and Derek Hough, who received a perfect 30 for their opening dance. Finally J. R. Martinez, who injured his ankle and finished third with pro Karina Smirnoff, had to join Hope and Maks in the bottom two.
In the end, despite continued improvement, Solo and Chmerkovskiy were eliminated from the competition.
"This competition is one of the toughest competitions I've ever been a part of. I'm grateful. This was an amazing opportunity," Solo said. "Instead of winning the mirror-ball trophy I'm going to go and try and win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics."
Her opinionated partner Chmerkovskiy apologized to Solo for not being able to get her to the finals: "Thank you for determination and will and everything else. I wish I could have been better for you," he told his partner. "It's been an amazing journey."
Hope and Maks' elimination means the three official finalists are Ricki and Derek, J.R. and Karina and Rob and Cheryl. And since Cheryl and Derek have each won a Mirrorball trophy twice, we're secretly hoping that J.R. can help Karina score her first win!
