If typical hot buttered rum is too strong and heavy for you, give it a tart twist with apple cider. It’s a perfect pairing, really, combining warm spices with dark rum and fresh apple flavor.

| 4 ounces (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature | 1 teaspoon ground ginger | |
| 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar | 6 ounces dark rum | |
| 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon | 3 cups apple cider, brought to a simmer |
Using a rubber spatula, thoroughly mix butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and ginger until smooth and well combined.
Place about 2 tablespoons of butter mixture in the bottom of each heatproof glass. Top with 1 1/2 ounces (3 tablespoons) of dark rum and 3/4 cup hot cider. Stir and serve hot.
