Hot Tips for a Safer Halloween

October isn't just about Halloween - it's also Fire Safety Month.  With all the jack-'o-lanterns you're carving and lighting, this might be a good opportunity to remember the "stop, drop and roll" routine -- and review precautions that will keep you from using it in the first place.

  • Skip the candles when decorating the porch, it will prevent costumes from catching fire. Instead, pick up battery-powered tea lights for your pumpkins.
  • Never burn candles if adults are not present and monitoring children.
  • Keep candles away from crepe paper, leaves and other flammable objects.
  • Be sure to blow out candles before leaving the room or going to sleep.  Never let them burn all night.

I think you can handle that.  Class, dismissed.
