While I'm not sure exactly when the transition occurred, there has definitely been a change in the way children are perceived by their parents. Remember when it was said that children should be seen and not heard? Parents today not only listen to their children, they obey their every whim. And this is not only bad for a couple's relationship and sex life. It's also bad for the children. Children without discipline, who don't learn to accept the fact that they aren't the center of the universe, will have great difficulties in school as well as later in life. Children are an integral part of every family, but a mother's love for them cannot replace her love for her husband. And anytime it does, it spells danger with a capital D. I understand that it can be difficult for a new mother to restart her libido, but she should never completely give up on that goal. And she should not use as an excuse an "infatuation" with her children. Oh, Freud would have a field day with that one!
