How to Create a Command Center

Follow these steps to create a totally customizable board that can serve as your personal "home command center" (8 Photos)

Plan and Draw

First, consider your unique needs. Think about the challenges you face in keeping your home organized, and take stock of the clutter that needs corralling. Then, make a wish list. The command center we built was designed as a place to:

Leave notes or reminders
Take phone messages
Store and update shopping lists
Sort mail and store papers

Once you know which features you want to include, make a sketch of your planned command center. Ours will be 32” square, with a 1-foot blackboard at the top, a magnetic strip (which will hold a detachable notebook for shopping lists) and five pockets for sorting and storing mail and papers.
