Indiana borders Illinois, but its neighboring state’s happiness isn’t rubbing off -- women in Indiana have one of the highest rates of depression in the US. With less than half of women here getting proper amounts of exercise -- and less than a quarter consuming a healthy daily diet -- it’s also no real shocker that the majority of Indiana women are overweight or obese.
It’s not all so bleak. When it comes to other factors, the Hoosiers deserve some healthy congrats: rates of gun deaths, skin cancer and binge drinking are all comparatively low. We’d like to see more mammograms, however, before we start praising Indy for that low rate of breast cancer.
