How Healthy Are Women in Pennsylvania?

Heart disease, the top cause of death in the USA, plagues women in Pennsylvania more than almost every other state—as do related conditions like high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

The good news: only 13 percent of women in the Keystone State are uninsured. That’s impressive, but considering such great insurance coverage, those pretty average mammogram and Pap smear rates are disappointing. Some advice: start taking advantage of that coverage and book life-saving screenings. Maybe it will help raise the state’s life expectancy—Penn ladies live almost 2 years less than their immediate neighbor to the north, New York.

See where Pennsylvania ranks on the health issues below. Remember, #1 is healthiest; #50 is least healthy.
