How Healthy Are Women in Rhode Island?

Rhode Island has one of the nation’s highest mammogram and breast cancer rates. Yet, its rate of breast cancer death is lower than the national average – which shows that Rhode Island’s Women’s Cancer Screening Program, which since 1995 has provided more than 43,000 mammograms for low-income and uninsured women, is making a difference.

Women in Rhode Island also eat a healthier diet than most and rank #11 when it comes to the percentage of women with health insurance. All good news. The sad news: Rhode Island women are among the 10 most depressed in the country, with one in four women being treated for a depressive disorder at some time in their lives.
