How Healthy Are Women in Utah?

Utah is full of healthy women. They rarely binge drink, smoke less than women in any other state, they haveabout the lowest rates of high blood pressure and cholesterol, they exercise more than most and far fewer are obese or overweight. They also have the healthiest hearts in the land, with the lowest rate of heart disease.

Unfortunately, depression is an issue, with 28 percent of women seeking treatment -- one of the highest rates in the country. Utah’s biggest area for improvement, though: it’s one of the two worst states for mammogram and Pap smear rates, which may explain the deceptively low numbers of related cancers.
