How Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt Blew $10 Million

Outrageous spending (including Heidi's surgery marathon!) has forced the reality stars to move in with Pratt's parents

Most of us can't fathom earning as much money as Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt -- especially for doing so little! So it's especially mind-boggling to hear how quickly the reality stars have blown their cash.

It seems the infamous couple has been following in the irresponsible footsteps of Real Housewives star Teresa Giudice (whose out-of-control spending habits cost her $11 million). The newly reunited duo -- who pulled in fat pay paychecks from The Hills and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! -- admits to Life & Style they're considering filing for bankruptcy after blowing upwards of $10 million.

"We were immature, worrying too much about the famous part instead of the actual business part," Pratt, 27, tells the magazine. "In hindsight, we shouldn't have spent any of our money. We should have been low-key and saved. We spoke with a bankruptcy attorney and I've looked into unemployment checks."

So, how exactly did Speidi get to this point? According to L&S, monthly $35K payments on their Malibu home, $3 million towards Montag's failed music career and "hundreds of thousands" on her many surgeries all contributed to their financial mess.

Now, the two are dealing with the consequences of their actions. "At our lowest point, I considered posing for nude pictures in Playboy," says Montag, 24.

But, an offer from Pratt's parents to stay in their guesthouse made her change her mind. "Spencer's parents go to the grocery store for us once a week and that's all we get," she claims.

Pratt says his new lifestyle makes him feel "like I'm 14 years old again," and he thinks a certain set of popular reality stars are to blame for his current predicament. "We thought The Hills was going to be like 90210 and we'd have another five to 10 years," he says. "The ratings were consistent. But we never saw Jersey Shore coming. Before, TV audiences were fine with seeing us all argue, but now they want you to punch one another in the face and hook up with three different people. Our cast was a bit boring and snooze-worthy in comparison. No wonder we got canceled."

Nevertheless, Pratt, who along with Montag owes about $2 million in taxes alone, knows he's at fault. "We don't want sympathy," he says. "We did this to ourselves and feel like idiots. But we've grown up and are definitely not as naive anymore."
