How I'd Makeover Snooki's Red Carpet Look

Snooki (MTV) Jersey Shore on the Red CarpetThose of us that watch "Jersey Shore" know that it's all about the bootie! The problem is it has to be the right type of bootie. Let me tell you the booties that Snooki wore on the red carpet last night at the Grammys definitely are not the right kind of bootie. These boots were not made for walking on the carpet, Snooki!

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi has problems that so many women have that come to my shop. She is extremely petite and has a full voluptuous figure. So she has to find a look that somehow will elongate her torso and make her look taller and longer. She always seems to try to show off her legs with really short skirts. She had to know that the booties she wore just did not work. They stopped the flow of the leg right at her ankle making her appear shorter. She needed a strappy sandal or something open-toe, a sling back at least to open up the line of her leg and not cut it off so quickly at the ankle. Those booties brought her look down.

Fitting a petite woman is one of the toughest assignments in the fashion industry. The models that are used to develop fashions these days always seem to be six feet tall and they don't take into account how many women are not. Sometimes their proportions may be similar to a taller woman but they have shorter legs. In other cases they are also "short-waisted" so it becomes even a harder fit.

If you are plus and petite, you should also look for styles that elongate your look. Horizontal lines cut off the figure and make you appear wider and shorter. Vertical lines such as pleats, v-necklines, and open jackets create an elongated silhouette. You need to avoid styles that chop up your profile. A longer necklace can make your look work and help create the illusion that you are longer than you really are.

The problem with Snooki's outfit was that she didn't try to create any sort of illusion. She put it all out there and looked like she was going to the disco at the shore instead of the Grammys. The shutter look seemed like it was strips of purple Saran Wrap that was plastered to her body. Snooki did not think it through enough to realize that she should have stayed away from horizontal pleating. It was a little too tight for her shape and she appeared even shorter. She would have been well advised to enhance her curvy body by showing off her curves with a more structured look.

I found a BCBG Maxazria Shutter Pleat Dress with a Chiffon Skirt to do just that. It would wrap across the smallest part of her waist lengthening her torso, but still short and adding personality to the look. Adding a peep-toe sling-back shoe like the Enzo Angiolini 'Starlite' Platform Pump (instead of that bootie) would have added texture, height and a long leg to the look.

Another look I would of preferred to see her wearing would have been the Strapless Chiffon Party Dress by BCBG Maxazria. (Both these dresses come in petite sizes.) Here she could have done strapless or spaghetti strap (both options are available with the dress) bringing the attention up closer to her face with oversized sequins shimmers, on a flowing chiffon dress. Again, it would hit her at the smallest part of her waist and then skimming her body. The bonus would have been that it is a steel blue color that would look great with her eyes and skin tone and right on trend with the color of spring!

Snooki could of avoided all the grief she is getting from the snarky fashionista's who are ripping her apart. I don't want to do that. I just want her to find a look that will flatter her shape and let her look like she belongs on the red carpet.
