J.R. Martinez is thrilled that he's expecting a baby girl with girlfriend Diana Gonzalez-Jones. But it wasn't always easy juggling the pregnancy secret with his Dancing with the Stars commitments.
Even though the 28-year-old mirror-ball trophy champ recently announced the pregnancy, he and Diana have known since September -- throughout most of Martinez' time on the dancing competition.
"I kept it under wraps and focused on my dancing," he told Us Weekly.
But the All My Children star managed to make time for his girlfriend's pregnancy needs while keeping partner Karina Smirnoff happy on the dance floor.
"Even when I was dancing, I still made time to go to her doctor appointments with her," he explained. "I would tell Karina, 'Hey I need to push rehearsal back an hour...' I was so focused mentally, emotionally, on Dancing with the Stars, and then I was also processing, 'Whoa, I'm going to be a dad!" That's a lot of information to process at one time!"
Thanks to his experience dancing with Smirnoff, whom he helped win her very first DWTS championship, Martinez has high hopes for his baby girl.
"I'm thinking I'm going to have my girl play sports. I'm going to have her be active," he said. "Maybe [she'll] go to Karina Smirnoff's dance studio for lessons one day!"
