Start with nice sized russet or Idaho potatoes, making sure they are firm. These starchy and large potatoes are perfect for baking because they have a hearty texture and fluff up perfectly with the help of a fork. You can bake potatoes in a microwave, but for that great chewy skin and an evenly cooked texture throughout, oven-baked is the way to go. Click here to find out how to do it.
(And by the way, 1 medium potato contains 16 percent of the daily recommended amount of fiber and 35 percent of Vitamin C. With only 170 calories. Nice.)
