How to make Personalized Pyramids

Ages: 6-8, 9-12
Location: Indoors, Kitchen
Skills: Physical, Language, Thinking, Social, Sciences, Chores

What you'll need:
Copies of the food pyramid
Pencils

Background: Kids need to know how to plan healthy meals. Here's a fun way to teach your kids about nutrition.

Setting up:
Find a food pyramid on the internet and print it out for each member of your family.

What to do:
Let children go to work measuring their own mixture of different cereals.

Starting at the bottom, list as many of your favorite foods as you can fit into each section. (Of course, you will have more room for breads and cereals than you will for sweets!) Once everyone in the family has had a chance to fill in his or her own food pyramid, it's time to compare notes.

Are there some foods that everyone in your family likes? What types of meals could you make using these ingredients?
