Ages: 3-5, 6-8
Location: Indoors
Skills: Art, Social/Emotional

What you'll need:
Nylon stocking (8-inch length plus extra hose fabric)
Cardboard thread cone or cone made of poster board
Fabric
Dowel
Rubber band
Needle and thread
Scraps of cotton, yarn

Background:
This puppet is surprisingly simple to make and gets wonderful results.

Setting up:
Stuff the toe of the stocking with extra hose fabric. Poke the dowel into the toe and secure with the rubber band.

Sew facial features in the stocking with needle and thread.

Insert the dowel into the large end of the thread cone. Stretch the rest of the stocking around the outside of the cone.

Poke holes in the narrow end of the cone. Sew the stocking to the cone end.

Add fabric arms, clothing and yarn or cotton hair.

What to do:
Hold the cone in one hand and use the other to move the puppet by means of the dowel. Make the puppet pop up from the cone and look around, then disappear again.
