How to make Sugar Cookies

Ages: 3-5, 6-8
Location: Kitchen
Skills: Physical, Social/Emotional

What you'll need:
Basic sugar cookie recipe
Extra eggs
Food coloring
Small paintbrush

Background:
You're probably going to make cookies anyway, especially around holidays, so let your children help. Before you bake the cookies, let the children paint them with colorful decorations.

Setting up:
Make egg yolk "paint" by thinning one or two egg yolks with a tablespoon or so of water. Divide the mixture into a muffin tin, then tint with different food colorings.

What to do:
Give the kids a paintbrush and let them go to work. They can paint the unbaked cookies using the different colors. Add colored sprinkles if you wish, then bake as usual. The kids will love making art that can be eaten!
