How to Organize Your Fridge -- and Keep Your Cool

Fitting in all those leftovers doesn't have to be a chilly game of Jenga

So you’re sweating over how you’re going to fit a mountain of leftovers, a produce department’s worth of vegetables and three pies into your refrigerator.

Whether you have the latest stainless-steel model or a 10-year-old workhorse, these tips will keep your fridge organized into the new year:

Give it a spin

An inexpensive lazy Susan fits on a fridge shelf for easy access to jams, spreads and other often-used add-ons.

Square it up

Square and rectangular containers for wrangling small items are easier to stack and fit into fridge spaces, leaving less wasted space than round ones.

Clean smart

Custom fridge shelf liners are adorable, but sticky cling wrap, like Glad Press n’ Seal, works just as well. When the inevitable spill happens, just remove and replace for easy clean-up.

Make your mark

Take a cue from professional chefs and label your leftovers with painter’s tape and a Sharpie, so you know exactly how long that chicken has been in there.
