Ages: 3-5, 6-8
Location: Indoors, Outdoors
What you'll need:
Newspaper or craft paper
This activity gives kids the chance to do their favorite thing -- get messy! Not only are they allowed to paint with their hands, they can create each masterpiece according to the music that is being played. Encourage them to let all of their creative juices flow and use the music as a guide.
Cover work tables with newspaper or craft paper and provide each child with a large sheet of finger-painting paper. Mix several colors of finger paint and pour a small amount of each onto each sheet of paper.
What to do:
Play a tape or recording and ask the children to move the paint on their paper with the music. Begin with very soft, easy-to-listen-to music. Watch to see how the children interpret the music in their movements.
After a while, switch to faster-paced music and point out the change in the children's movements. Encourage the children to match their movements to new music selections.
