How to play the Egg-Cup Game

Ages: 6-8
Location: Outdoors
Skills: Physical, Thinking

What you'll need:
1 egg carton for each child
Bag of dried beans
Dishpan or bucket

Using a few household items, you can teach kids this creative outdoor race.

Setting up:
Put the beans in the dishpan and put the dishpan in the center of the floor. Give each child an egg carton and a space on the floor; be sure the children are all the same distance from the beans.

What to do:
On your signal, have the children run to the container of beans, take one bean, return to the egg carton, and place the bean in the first cup. Have the children continue collecting a bean and putting it in a cup until all 12 cups contain a bean. The first child to fill an egg carton is the winner.

Some variations of this game include dividing the children into relay teams to fill an egg carton with beans. Or let older children write numbers in the bottom of the cups and have the children fill the cups with the number of beans specified in each.
