Select an Optimal Site

Choose a level plot that has had no synthetic chemicals -- no pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or nonorganic compost -- on it for three years, says Robert McLaughlin, CEO of Organic Bouquet, a mission-based flower company focused on environmental, social and economic sustainability. Virgin soil is even better. You want your produce to be pure. You also want to make sure it receives sunlight, so find a bright corner of your yard.
