How to Throw a Reading Party

Need a great way to keep kids excited about books during the long, lazy days of summer? Throw a reading party! As part of the iVillage and PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge community members and bloggers organized book bashes that were a hit with kids of all ages. Here, their best planning tips to help your budding bookworm party on!

Choose a Theme
Here's an easy place to start: Base your theme around the book you’re reading. iVillage Community Leader PHAcademy hosted a fairy-themed party for her daughter and her friends based on the book Fablehaven. She even had a ‘make your own fairy craft’ following the reading. “I bought clothespins (not the clip type, but the straight ones), pipe cleaners, bulk tulle and foamy shape stickers (the little ones) and made fairy kits. They were easy for the kids to assemble and adorable.” Another iVillager threw a Bagels, Books, and Buddies, breakfast party to start everyone’s day off right.
