How Will 'Breaking Dawn' Be Divided Up?

Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg explains how she'll split the fourth Twilight book into two movies

Earlier this month Twilight fans got the exciting news that the saga's fourth book, Breaking Dawn, will be split in two for the creation of separate film adaptations. Now screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg starts the the daunting task of dividing the book in half.

“I’m doing first drafts now,” Rosenberg told Reuters. “But I think it comes down to Bella as human and Bella as vampire. [Director] Bill Condon may give you a different answer, but I think it’s a natural break. There’s her as a human with the baby and everything and then there’s her as a parent and a vampire.”

Because Breaking Dawn includes numerous life-altering events for lovers Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) (spoiler alert: a wedding, a pregnancy, and the birth of a baby!), it would have been difficult to work it into just one film. But, still, Rosenberg says the actual decision to turn the book into two movies was a tough one.

"When we started, everyone was a little bit unsure," she said. "It kind of came down to me looking at the book and going, ‘Are there two movies in this?’

"We all wanted it to be two movies," she continued. "Then it came down to, ‘Are the actors available for two movies?’ So there were a lot of things that went into this decision."

The third Twilight film, Eclipse, hits theaters June 30.
