American office workers spend an average of 52 hours a week at their desks or cubicles. But while long hours and a big to-do list can wear you down, stress isn’t so much about your situation as how you perceive it. Change your perception and you can change your stress levels. “The more stressed we are, the less able we are to think rationally about our situation,” says executive coach M.J. Ryan, author of AdaptAbility.

So, when you're feeling stressed, figuring out a logical solution can be virtually impossible. Instead, Ryan recommends training ourselves to recognize early signs of stress and to implement relaxation techniques.
