Not everyone is happy about recent rumblings that Howard Stern may be taking Simon Cowell's spot on American Idol next season. In fact, The Parents Television Council has launched a petition to keep to the shock jock, 56, off the talent competition.

"Fox's American Idol is one of the few family-friendly programs left on broadcast TV," the group says in a statement, before slamming the network for "considering filling the show with someone who is known primarily for crude profanity and explicit sex talk."

In their statement, the council points out some of Stern's previous controversial comments about the Columbine school massacre and Idol's Season 3 winner, Fantasia Barrino. The concerned parents are asking others to "protect America's children and grandchildren from being exposed to this kind of language every week on American Idol, it is absolutely vital that you TELL FOX NOT TO HIRE HOWARD STERN!"
