Now here's a pairing we didn't expect to see again. One year after their messy and humiliating public breakup, Hugh Hefner and his former fiancee Crystal Harris are back together. Maybe men in their mid-80s are just that much more forgiving?
On Friday, Harris, 26, confirmed via Twitter that she and the 86-year-old Playboy mogul had reunited.
"Yes @hughhefner and I are back together," the former Miss November tweeted. "Yes I am his #1 girl again. Yes we are happy. Hope that clears up any confusion! xo"
Well, it doesn't entirely clear up the confusion. Last June, Harris broke up with Hefner five days before their scheduled wedding. Her decision apparently blindsided the Playboy publisher, who had already shipped the latest issue -- with Harris on the cover and the headline "Introducing Mrs. Crystal Hefner." (Before the issue hit newsstands, it was slapped with a sticker that said "Runaway Bride.")
"For a while I've been having second thoughts about everything...This isn't the lifestyle for me, multiple girls all around," Harris told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show.
In response, Hefner tweeted, "Crystal did an interview with Ryan Seacrest this morning to explain everything, but I still don't have a clue. I didn't see any of this coming, but I'm glad things went wrong before the marriage instead of after. Live & learn."
Amid rumors that she was cheating on Hef and had been offered money to leave him at the altar, Harris trashed their sex life on the Howard Stern Show. Meanwhile, Hefner quickly found two new buxom blonde shoulders to cry on.
"After all is said & done, staying single is probably for the best," Hefner tweeted. "I think I just missed a bullet."
Yet now Hefner and Harris are back together. How did that happen? Apparently, the reunion was the work of Hef's longtime assistant Mary O'Connor -- who's not just the only woman his own age he associates with, but probably the one who knows him the best.
"It's Mary O'Conner that brought Crystal Harris back. Crystal was miserable & said so," Hefner tweeted on Friday. "Mary told Crystal to write & tell me, which she did."
He also told his Twitter followers that "getting back together with Crystal Harris shouldn't be a big surprise, since I have a history of remaining close to former girlfriends."
Doesn't sound like there are wedding bells in the future, though. For now, Crystal is just one of the girls next door.
"Shera & my other Mansion girlfriends welcomed Crystal here at dinner on Tuesday night, before playing games together," Hef tweeted on Friday.
