Hugh Jackman is getting declawed! The 41-year-old Aussie actor, best known to audiences as Wolverine in the X-Men films, will soon be taking a new cinematic job: selling makeup door-to-door.
According to Variety, Jackman has signed on to star in an upcoming film called Avon Man. Jackman’s character is a laid-off car dealer who, in desperation, turns to selling make-up door-to-door – and ends up saving his family from financial ruin. Looks like Jackman is trying to soften his image after signing up for back-to-back action films (including Wolverine 2 and the futuristic robot boxing movie Real Steel). The Tony-winner plans to star in a film adaptation of the musical Carousel alongside Anne Hathaway, as well as two romantic comedies (Rebound Guy and 3 Days in Europe with Jennifer Garner).
Avon Man will join the recession-movie trend kicked off by Oscar-nominated lay-off story Up In the Air. Look for the Ben Affleck film The Company Men, a big hit at Sundance -- and even Sex in the City 2, which will find Carrie and company forced to sift through the clearance rack.
