Men of the world, this might be a Valentine's Day bummer for you, but Hugh Jackman is not gay. No, despite rumors to the contrary, he is not gay, he never has been gay and he never will be gay, and his wife Deborra-lee Furness would really like you to leave him alone about it.
"Just recently, it bugs her," Jackman, 44, tells The Hollywood Reporter of the gay rumors. "She goes, 'It’s big. It’s everywhere!'"
And who could blame her for being irritated? We sure would be annoyed. Though the rumors have swirled for a while, Jackman and Furness' marriage has lasted longer than most in Hollywood. The couple has been married for 17 years, and producer Lauren Shuler Donner says they're one of the most solid pairs she knows.
"I have seen him with Deborra since the beginning of their trip to Hollywood, and I’ve been on five movie sets with him and have never seen him stray, have never seen him eye anyone," she confirms. "I met him when he did Oklahoma! [at London's Royal National Theatre in 1999]. He was genuine, hugely talented. He was in love with his wife that day and still is."
And just in time for Valentine's Day, Jackman shared an aww-worthy moment with THR. He described the feeling he had when he first met his wife on the set of the TV series, Correlli.
"When I met Deb, it was 10 times better than my single life," he says. "She was very beautiful. She was unbelievably fun -- this energy, this spirit -- irrepressible. And she had a confidence in herself. I had a massive crush on her instantly."
He adds, "She was sort of the opposite of me. I was very 'Even Steven,' and she was thrilling to me. I was always really attracted to that -- though at one point, as it was getting really serious, it terrified me."
It seems like they're doing pretty well for themselves now! In addition to a seemingly solid marriage, Jackman has another reason to love 2013: He's up for the best actor Academy Award thanks to his role in Les Miserables.
