You could try emulating John Madden who only travels by bus. You can also write to your congressman/woman to request that a high-speed rapid rail system be implemented faster! Or instead of avoiding planes, you can learn guided imagery techniques to help lessen your anxiety, such as Dr. Martin Rossman's Anxiety Relief CD or Cleveland Clinic's Stress Free Now online program.

It will also help to try to be rational about this, by reminding yourself that you are 50,000 times more likely to die while crossing a busy intersection than when flying in a plane. If the above techniques don't work, there are therapists who specialize in helping people overcome their fear of flying, called aerophobia. You might also want to read up on specific phobias, which are considered anxiety disorders.
