Kid Scoop: Sam Finds Her Mom on 'iCarly', The 'Battleship' Movie, and More!

Nickelodeon

Have trouble getting your kid's attention at the dinner table? We're here to help! With each weekly serving of Kid Scoop, we'll share the latest news in the world of kids' TV and movies, so you can be the know-it-all for a change.

In this week's scoop, iCarly's Sam finds her mom, animated movies get a holiday TV makeover, a Battleship assembles its crew, and more.

Sam Gets a Mom!
While the whereabouts and what-abouts of iCarly's mom are still a mystery, her BFF Sam (Jennette McCurdy) will meet her own mother this Saturday, and it's none other than Glee's Jane Lynch (sans the Glee track suit, we hope)! Don't expect a cringe-worthy song outburst either, but we're all for a slushie war.

New Toons From Nick
Nickelodeon premieres two new animated shows in October. T.U.F.F. Puppy, a comedy about crime-fighting canines from the producer of The Fairly OddParents, and the Jimmy Neutron spin-off Planet Sheen will be placed in orbit Saturday morning, Oct. 2.

Shrek or Treat?
NBC will be premiering new half-hour holiday specials for Halloween and Thanksgiving, but don't count on seeing The Great Pumpkin or Pilgrims -- these specials are inspired by Shrek and Kung Fu Panda. The specials, Scared Shrekless and Kung Fu Panda Holiday, will air on Oct. 28 and Nov. 24 respectively. They aren't exactly breaking new ground, considering last year's airings of Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space and Merry Madagascar, both of which will be repeated this fall as well. (Suggestions for next year: How to Train Your Dracula and Despicable Fruitcake)

Preparing for Battle
In toys-to-movies news, the feature film version of Battleship will not set sail until May 2012, but much of the crew has been announced, including Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker and Taylor Kitsch. No word on who plays the red pegs and who plays the white pegs.

More Rock for Journey!
For the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, Dwayne Johnson will take over the role originated by Brendan Fraser. Splashing down on Sept. 2011, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island will be shot in 3D like the 2008 original (back when 3D was still an amazing thing), and stars Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson and a swarm of giant bees.
