Ice Cream, 40s Style

The blustery weather may make your kids reach for hot chocolate with ‘mallows, but who can resist ice cream -- especially when it’s this simple?

Best for kids aged: 3 and up

What you'll need: A large bowl to collect fresh snow; another large bowl to mix ingredients; 1 cup of condensed milk; ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract; ½ cup of sugar

Directions: On a snowy day, place the large bowl outside in an area where it won’t be disturbed for a few hours. Collect five cups of fresh, clean snow. Do not pack snow down. Set snow aside in freezer. In the second large bowl, whisk the condensed milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until the sugar dissolves. Then, while stirring, let the kids gradually add the five cups of snow until the mixture has the consistency of real ice cream.
