The rumors have finally been confirmed that Jennifer Lopez will be bringing her celebrity skills to the new panel of American Idol judges. But will having her star power on the talent competition come at a big price for Idol execs?
While in negotiations with the show, rumors were rampant that J.Lo made outrageous demands and was being very difficult -- but Lopez says all the negative talk was totally made up.
"After as many years as I've been in this business, I'm used to that kind of stuff," Lopez said Wednesday at an Idol press conference. "I'm used to speculation."
J.Lo says she was actually trying to soothe the FOX execs, telling them that all the hype would die down once the news was revealed.
"I was calming the Fox people down," she explained. "I was like, 'Listen, it'll be gone tomorrow. Once they hear who we are and what we're doing, it's going to be fine. Don't worry about it.' I was just looking forward to getting started."
Never one to let an opportunity to poke fun pass, Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe jumped on the bandwagon and jokingly played into the diva talk.
"I said to Jennifer today, we heard that she only likes yellow M&Ms," he said. "I'm thinking, 'Who's going to pick them all out for her?' She said, 'No, where did that come from?'"
Mike Darnell, head of alternative programming on Fox, also defended Lopez: "I can tell you from the Fox standpoint, the deal was not tough. There were no diva demands. It was a really easy, comfortable deal with both parties."
