Fashion Fugitive: Shearling Coat-Wearing Monkey Captured at Ikea

There's a new monkey in town—and he's rocking a faux-fur coat and knows how to use an Allen wrench

How do you say bananas in Swedish? While we’ve seen our share of fashion don’ts strolling Ikea's aisles—one primate proved that when it comes to style, shearling coats are a monkey do. On Sunday, the exotic pet escaped from his owner’s car, which was parked at a suburban Toronto outlet, and entered the superstore’s lobby. Like most Ikea shoppers, the animal looked dazed and confused--but possibly better dressed than some of the customers.

After an impromptu photo shoot, the new style-star, Darwin, was placed is in the custody of Toronto Animal Services and his owner tracked down and fined for having a prohibited animal. So how did the rhesus macaque react to his five minutes of fame? “The monkey was a little scared, that’s all,” assured Toronto Police Staff Sergeant Ed Dzingala when speaking with Canada’s The Globe and Mail.

Of course, parody Twitter accounts attributed to the monkey have popped up following his public appearance this past weekend. With regards to that on-trend topper, @Ikeamonkey tweeted: “Way overdressed for this animal shelter.”
