I'm Halfway Through My 30s and Feeling Depressed. Are my Best Years Really Over?

Carol Landau, Ph.D., healthy living expert at iVillage.com, answers your questions about managing your 20s and 30s without getting depressed

Your best years are most definitely not behind you! Many women have a great time in their 20s and 30s, thanks to the freedom that comes with youth and, if fortunate, a lack of health or financial concerns. Plus, there is a different sense of time. In your 20s and 30s, time feels almost infinite and certainly like nothing to worry about. The sense that time is more limited grows stronger as early as the mid-30s.

However, the losses of the 20-to-35 years can be offset by more self-awareness, which gives you more control of your “best years.” Think about what you are missing and, to the extent that you can, make a plan for change.

Some women sail through their 20s and 30s. Others do not. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of moving to a new place, looking for work and meeting new people, learn how to sidestep the pitfalls and survive.
