Glee sure loves its Gaga. Last May, fans were treated to a gleeked-out (albeit toned-down) version of "Poker Face," courtesy of the mother/daughter duo, Shelby (Idina Menzel) and Rachel (Lea Michele). And Kurt (Chris Colfer) and his female cast mates clearly reveled in dressing the part while belting out "Bad Romance." Fox recently announced that a "super-sized" April 26 episode would feature the New Directions tackling yet another Lady Gaga hit, "Born This Way" -- and now the network has revealed that the episode will be a Monster-ific 90 minutes long!
Fox also revealed that the episode will focus on the show's favorite theme: self-acceptance and embracing differences. For example, Rachel will ponder a nose job, while Quinn (Dianna Agron) will duke it out with the newest New Direction, Lauren (Ashley Fink), for prom queen -- challenging the idea that all prom queens must fit a certain bill.
When you think about it, Lady Gaga lives out that credo of self-acceptance every day, with each new performance. So it's no wonder the producers are so keen to tackle her songs. 'Born This Way' is, of course, a very Gleeky anthem, and it gives the episode its title.
While it's not technically a tribute episode like the ones fashioned around Britney Spears and Madonna (not all the songs performed will be Gaga's), the April 26 ep is yet another nod in the singer's direction. Is creator Ryan Murphy trying to send a message here? In other words: "Please do a cameo on our show!"
