What had us talking at iVillage this week?
Admittedly, the week got off to a slow start after a lovely and lazy holiday weekend, but it didn’t take long for visions of the next presidential election and murder trials to start dancing in our heads.
It’s been a crazy week for Lady Justice. We’ve been simultaneously riveted and deeply saddened by the Casey Anthony murder trial in Florida.
Bizarrely, in the same Orlando courthouse, Billy Bob Thornton’s estranged daughter Amanda Brumfield was convicted of manslaughter of a 1-year-old in her care. These tragic stories involving the death of a child stop us in our tracks. We can ‘t imagine the sorrow these families are going through.
At least Octomom’s doctor’s license was finally taken away, though there is some debate about whether or not he should be punished for her personal decisions.
As always, politicians were a hot topic. Sarah Palin hit the road in an over-the-top tour bus and continues to divide our community with the “Should She Run?” debate.
Two New York-area politicians also had us scratching our heads in disbelief over their unprofessional actions. New York Congressman Anthony Weiner got caught up in a Twitter photo scandal. By not flatly denying or fessing up to taking and sharing a suggestive self-portrait, his name continues to dominate the news -- and late night jokes.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie got busted for using a state helicopter to attend this son’s baseball game, leaving New Jersey moms in our office wondering why that money is not being spent on their kids’ educations.
The news of Dr. Jack Kevorkian’s death created a big outpouring of sentiment: His life’s work obviously touched a great many.
Things that are keeping up us at night: Are our cell phones giving us cancer? Do we really need to be “bikini ready” -- really? And when the heck are these “end of the school” year festivities gonna end so we can have some summer fun?
What did we miss?
