"Treat Every Child As Your Own"
I also announce that PEPFAR and UNAIDS will contribute $300,000 to the Organization of African First Ladies Against AIDS. In 2002, nearly 40 first ladies founded the OAFLA, to raise awareness of an issue that is too often shrouded in denial. In 2005, the first ladies launched the "Treat Every Child As Your Own" initiative, which educates adults about their responsibility to protect children from HIV/AIDS. Mrs. Mwanawasa is the chair of the group and the current president of the OAFLA -- so it's very exciting to make this announcement with her in Zambia.

Surprise Guest
And then I have the pleasure of presenting everyone with a terrific surprise. One of the finalists from American Idol (and an extraordinary vocalist), Melinda Doolittle, has come all the way to Zambia to sing for us. She's also there to witness the work being done throughout Zambia by PMI. Viewers of American Idol gave millions of dollars to charities fighting malaria during the show's "Idol Gives Back" campaign; Melinda represents their compassion in Zambia with a stirring performance of "Amazing Grace," accompanied by the orphans' choir.
