My first job right after college (Columbia University) was teaching for the NYC Board of Education. I went back to teach at the same elementary school I attended as a young girl. But I quickly realized that teaching was not a career for me -- mostly because of the bureaucratic and administrative problems inherent in the school system. Watching American Teacher made me realize that very little has changed over the past 22 years. I was shocked to see how much teachers are willing to sacrifice for the love of teaching. To me, that's truly admirable. I now have even more respect for teachers...
