What a sweet brother! Jake Gyllenhaal made his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, homemade pancakes on the morning her Oscar nomination was announced. Maggie and her family -- husband Peter Saarsgard and daughter Ramona -- were staying at Jake's home in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning when the phone started ringing off the hook with the news, according to OK! Magazine.

"Did you get nominated?" Jake, 29, asked his sister excitedly. "Yes, I did!" said the 32-year-old Crazy Heart star, nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Then she wondered aloud if she should go back to sleep.

"Don't go back to sleep, this is amazing!" was her brother's response. "Have a coffee with me, and I'll make you pancakes."

Gyllenhaal's nomination (her first) was one of the big surprises of this year's Oscars. But she's now part of a family tradition: Jake was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 2006 for Brokeback Mountain, and their screenwriter mother Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal was nominated in 1988 for Running on Empty. Maggie told Extra! that chatting with her brother after receiving the happy news was helpful: "he's been through this... he kind of knows how it feels."

With Jake on griddle duty, his brother-in-law, Saarsgard (whose drama An Education is nominated for a Best Picture Oscar), answered his wife's phone while Maggie's mother stopped by for an early-morning champagne toast. As for 3-year-old Ramona? Maggie let her sleep in!
