If you've ever read the classic romance Jane Eyre, you may recall that Eyre's love interest/employer, Mr. Rochester, is described as a not-so-attractive man. And if you've seen the trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Jane Eyre (which hits select theaters March 11) you've surely noticed that Mr. Rochester is kind of -- well -- hot. That's because the filmmakers made the wise choice of casting Michael Fassbender, a gorgeous German-born actor who's going to be everywhere in 2011. (Watch below and see for yourself!)
Fassbender, 33, first showed up in the 2001 HBO mini-series Band of Brothers, but he really grabbed Hollywood's attention in 2009's Oscar-nominated Inglourious Basterds, playing the British WWII spy whose attempt to infiltrate a German tavern ends in bloodshed. Even though he followed Basterds with the flop Jonah Hex, Fassbender became a hot commodity -- and has no fewer than five films coming out in 2011. Beyond Jane Eyre, here are some upcoming films where you'll be able to watch Fassbender do his thing.
X-Men: First Class: In this superhero prequel, Fassbender plays the villain Magneto (portrayed in the other X-Men films by the much-older Ian McKellen).
A Dangerous Method: Fassbender plays famed psychiatrist Carl Jung, who gets involved in a love triangle with Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) over a patient (Keira Knightley). Scandalous!
Shame: This sexy indie costars Carey Mulligan, and is best known at the moment for having Fassbender shoot love scenes in New York City... up against an open window!
Prometheus: Fassbender stars with Charlize Theron and up-and-comer Noomi Rapace in this film that's supposed to reboot the Alien franchise. (This one's set for 2012.)
So what do you think? Could he be the next Brad Pitt, or is he more of a Matt Damon?
