Jason Bateman became a second-time dad last week, welcoming daughter Maple Sylvie into the family on February 10th, and to be honest, we're torn: We kind of like little Maple Sylvie's name...and we kind of don't.
On the plus side, the name that the Horrible Bosses star and wife Amanda Anka chose is sweet (no pun intended). We love Sylvie -- and think it fits nicely (and shares an international flair) with big sister Francesca, age 5. We like the unique take on the tree-name theme. (No so-last-year Willow for this girl!)
On the other hand, the kid is guaranteed to be called Maple Syrup for the entirety of her elementary school years. And while there are certainly worse things to be called (like Maple Tree, for starters), saddling your child with such a tease-worthy name is, well, a little too character-building for us. Plus, it sounds awfully similar to the granny-chic name Mabel -- meaning she'll probably be correcting everyone from teachers to telemarketers when they mistake her name.
