After two years of marriage to Bethenny Frankel, Jason Hoppy isn't quite ready to take the ring off. The sales executive was photographed wearing his wedding band in public on Thursday, just four days after he and reality star Frankel announced their separation. Is it possible that Frankel and Hoppy are still trying to work things out?
Things appear amicable, at least on the surface. In her public statement, Frankel announced the couple's intention to co-parent daughter Bryn, 2. She also tweeted that she and Hoppy would "work through this as a family." The word "divorce" hasn't been spoken... yet.
Sad as it is, Bethenny and Jason's breakup isn't a complete shock to anyone who watched their courtship unfold on reality TV. Their wedding, filmed for Bravo's Bethenny Getting Married?, was intensely rushed and followed immediately by the birth of their daughter. As the following two seasons of Bethenny Ever After aired, it appeared that Frankel was willing to make zero compromises to accommodate both her home and her work life -- and that Hoppy resented her being the boss and breadwinner of the family. Many of their arguments made it into the final cut of their Bravo shows.
"Money, family, gender roles, we just keep fighting over them," Frankel told People in May. "It's almost like a scab that you keep picking at... We had our issues when we were dating. We always had the struggle to accept one another."
It's possible that Bethenny and Jason will work things out, but if not, they'll simply be the latest casualties of made-for-TV romance. It's hard enough to sustain a long-term relationship without the entire world watching and judging you, and it's tough to get to know a person for real when they're always playing to the cameras. (Just ask every Bachelor winner, ever.)
The one thing that gives us hope is that Bethenny has called off her Bravo show. If she and Jason have a reconciliation, it will happen (thankfully) off-camera.
