For any man in love, what’s worse than getting left at the altar for another guy? Having to sit through a big-screen blockbuster movie that rehashes the whole debacle. And it’s written and cast by the other guy. That’s basically the plight of Ted (Josh Radnor) on Monday’s How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8 p.m. ET).
To sum up: Last season, Stella (Scrubs' Sarah Chalke) left Ted at the altar, married Tony (The Daily Show's Jason Jones), and moved to California -- where the victorious groom wrote a hit movie about his new wife. In The Wedding Bride, Tony's glossy, Hollywood depiction of the love triangle, who did he cast to play himself? Buff, blond Sex & the City hunk Jason Lewis, naturally. Plus, gorgeous Watchmen star Malin Akerman plays Stella. And bringing to life the role of Ted is none other than Chris Kattan, at his nerdy, loathsome best. This fake movie, by the way, has its own fake movie poster.
To make matters worse -- yes, they get worse -- Ted sees the film while on a date (with guest star Judy Greer), who will, no doubt, swoon over Ted's nemesis as portrayed by Jason Lewis.
And honestly, who wouldn’t fall for him on sight? Since earning his sex-god rep as Samantha’s boy-toy in SATC, the 38-year-old Lewis couldn’t be a better fit for the role as an intimidatingly handsome Hollywood stud.
But don't worry that Lewis grapples with typecasting fears. In fact, the actor once told Men’s Fitness magazine, “[After Sex & the City], it was easy to get the offers for the good-looking vapid dude,” he said. “I guess that's my power alley…[but] I have no regrets. If the show has in any way given me some sort of stigma, it's also something that gave me a huge burst of career. If that's the adversity I've got to worry about in life, big deal. I'm not digging ditches.”
Wow, and Jason Lewis is humble, too. Sorry, Ted -- but in this case, your pain is our gain.
