Haters can keep on hating, but Jay Cutler isn't going to let anything pop his happy bubble now that he and fiancee Kristin Cavallari are expecting their first child. There was some initial backlash when they first made the baby announcement -- people calling Cutler out for allegedly dumping Cavallari last summer -- but the Chicago Bears quarterback has asked those critics to move on and let them have their moment.
"Thanks for all the tweets. We couldn't be more excited," the 28-year-old NFL player tweeted Sunday following the announcement. "We don't usually comment on our relationship, but for the record I never broke up with Kristin. It's unfortunate some people are saying hurtful things during such a joyous moment in our life."
Meanwhile, Cavallari, 25, was responding to some other negative feedback she got in the wake of her pregnancy announcement. The former Hills starlet came under fire for posting comments several weeks ago about going out drinking -- but, as she tells it, those comments were meant as a red herring so that fans wouldn't figure out she had a bun in the oven.
"I tweeted that I had margaritas a few weeks ago to throw ppl off cuz I had gotten a couple tweets about my pregnancy. I didn't really drink!" Cavallari said. She was also quick to retweet Cutler's post.
The couple became engaged in April 2011 after dating for just eight months. They called off the wedding in July and even went as far as to return their wedding gifts -- but Cavallari and Cutler made amends in November and have been planning their wedding ever since. Well, Cavallari has been planning, at least.
"I don't really make a lot of (wedding) decisions," Cutler said in an interview in December. "I hear about them in passing or if I have to possibly write a check or something like that, but other than that, whatever she wants to do, I'm on board."
