It's been rumored for weeks, ever since Jay-Z joined Justin Timberlake on stage at the Grammys for his performance of their song, Suit & Tie: These two music superstars are going to tour together. Now it's official; the pair have finally confirmed that they will be hitting the road for a stadium tour around the country.
The name of this much-anticipated tour? Legends of the Summer! Not exactly what we were expecting from the creative minds behind such hits as "SexyBack" and "Empire State of Mind." Calling yourself "Legends of the Summer" just seems a tad ego-driven. Until this tour actually happens and wows us (and we're sure that it will), these boys aren't exactly deserving of that title just yet. One thing that we can predict will be quite legendary, though, will be the ticket prices. With shows at venues like Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park and The Rose Bowl, their show better deliver!
But Jay and JT aren't the only ones venturing out on the road this year with tour names that beg for a little interpretation:
Beyonce - Mrs. Carter Show Tour
For a lady who has made it a point to keep her personal life more private than any celebrity we have seen in a long time, naming her tour after hubby Jay-Z seems a bit out of left field. After hiding the fact for years that she was dating the rapper -- let alone got married to him! -- Beyonce finally opened up about their love in her recent HBO documentary, Life Is But A Dream. But the Mrs. Carter Show is not at all what we would expect from the "Single Ladies" singer. Stretching back to her days in Destiny's Child with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams and their anthem "Independent Ladies," Beyonce was always all about the girl power. We would be sad to see her lose that side of herself. But the idea that this could lead to a Bey and Jay co-headlining tour next is a no-brainer. Too bad Britney Spears and JT didn't end up together. Can't you just picture the B & J Squared Tour? Don't tell Jessica Biel!
98 Degrees, NKOTB, Boys II Men - The Package Tour
Women who grew up in the '80s and '90s squealed with excitement when this tour was announced. A concert filled with the studs of three of the hottest boy bands of the last three decades? What could be better? But calling it The Package Tour was not exactly what we were hoping for. Yes, it's full of hot guys, but are they trying to imply that every woman grabbing tickets is only after one thing: their package? Not quite. Maybe next time they should think about a tour name that won't add fuel to the making-fun-of-boy-bands fire.
Matchbox 20 - The Changed Tour
Rob Thomas and his crew, along with American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, have already hit the road on this tour. But what exactly is the change all about? It's not like Matchbox 20 ditched their famous pop/rock sound for a jazz/classical mix full of violins and french horns. Perhaps the band will decide to have a mullet-growing contest throughout the tour, leading to a completely changed look? (We'd definitely pay money to see Rob with a little business in the front and party in the back.)
Bruno Mars - Moonshine Jungle World Tour
We aren't quite sure what the "Grenade" singer has planned with this summer outing, but he definitely has us intrigued. Will his "moonshine jungle" include samples of the spirit handed out at his shows (for those 21 and over, of course)? Or will he and his band simply be enjoying it backstage at each tour stop? For an artist who has a sound that hearkens back to the early days of Prohibition, that might not be too surprising. Either way, we can't wait for Bruno to welcome us to his jungle.
