I just had a baby, and I think my dog is jealous. He acts as if he is afraid of the baby. I can't get him to lie next to her. Why is this? Is he jealous? --kerrissa
Lisa Rosenthal says: Your dog may be jealous of your baby. He can see that you are paying a lot of attention to a creature that is new to your home. This is time that perhaps you used to spend with him. Bingo, jealousy. Make time to play with your dog and reassure him that he's still an important part of your family. I'd suggest spending some time with your baby on your lap while sitting on the floor. Don't pressure your dog to come to you, but you may call him and see if he'd like a pet. Your dog is curious about this new being who is getting so much of your attention. Never force your dog to be close to your baby, but spending time down on his level will help feed his curiosity and help him to understand that this new member of the family is important but is not there to replace him.
